When to go to China
Spring (March-April) and autumn (September-October) are the best times to visit China, though the higher altitude areas of Tibet, Qinghai and Western Sichuan are best visited in high summer (June-September).
Daytime temperatures range from 20°C to 30°C (68°F-86°F) in these seasons - but bear in mind that nights can still be bitterly cold and it can sometimes be wet and miserable.
Major public holidays, in particular Chinese New Year, are best avoided as it is difficult to get around and/ or find accommodation.

Chinese Climate & Clothing
Climate in China:
Chinese Summers (Jun-Aug) are generally hot and humid, particularly in the cities, and in the interior of the country. Chinese Cities in the interior are naturally the hottest. Summer is also characterised by heavy rainfall.
Winter in China (Nov-Mar) can be very cold in desert and northern regions away from the warming influence of the sea. Temperatures plunge to well below freezing and it is not advised that you travel in the interior during this part of the year.
Required Clothing for China:
North – heavyweight clothing with boots for the harsh northern winters. Lightweight clothing for summer. South – mediumweight clothing for winter and lightweight for summer.
